Mount Rwenzori dubbed “The Mountains of the Moon” is decollated with huge tree heathers and colorful mosses mixed with gigantic lobelias and natural flowers, which create a reminiscent of the JJR Tolkien’s film Lord of the Rings.
The mountain ranges have several peaks such as Mount Stanley’s Margherita (5,109m), the third-highest peak in Africa and Alexandra (5,083). The mind-blowing slopes of the mountains are covered in moorland, bamboo and pretty moist montane forest.

Hiking is the popular activity that attracts tourists to this amazing national park. The hikes introduce you to several fauna and flora zones and finally ends on the glacial peaks. Several trails both shorter and long have been made which offer world-class hiking experiences to the hikers. A 7-day hiking plan can take you to the highest peak Margherita whereas there are shorter trails for 2 and 3 days.
Birding also attracts tourists interested in specific bird species. The park is one of the most important birding sites in Uganda. There have been 117 species recorded among which 19 are endemic to the Rwenzoris.
