The Maasai Mara National Reserve is popularly known as the photographer’s and naturalist’s paradise, because it has wildlife is in abundance. Several wildlife documentaries have been filmed here to showcase the beauty of this top safari destination. Some of the most interesting highlights of Maasai Mara include the plenitude of cats and the Great Wildebeest Migration which occurs annually from July to October thus making it a perfect place to go for wildlife viewing. The best places to experience the migration are the banks of the Mara or Telek rivers or the junction of the two. Famous locations in the national reserve include Topi Plains, Musiara Swamp and Rhino Ridge. Wildlife in this magnificent reserve include lions, cheetahs, elephants, rhino, zebra, buffalo, and giraffe, among others. There are over 450 species of birds living in the park.

The Mara River’s basin covers a surface area of 13,503 square kilometers and it is 395km long. The river flows though the grasslands of the Maasai Mara in Narok County located southern Kenya and northern Tanzania in the Mara Region (part of the Serengeti National Park) and it drains into Lake Victoria. Mara Triangle is the less visited and less crowded yet with a good concentration of wildlife in the southern part of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The herds of the Great Migration enter and depart Maasai Mara through the Mara Triangle from the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania. This gives it the high score for the perfect place to see the incredible Wildebeest Migration.
