Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe

Day 3: Canopy walk in the morning and drive to Volcanoes National Park

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

On arrival, our representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to a lodge in Nyungwe National Park.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe

Wake up for early breakfast and drive to the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee tracking. After the briefing, enter the forest with the rangers who will lead you through the trails as you hike searching for the chimpanzees. Expect to see monkeys, and other animals that live in this forest. Return to the lodge after the tracking.

Day 3: Canopy walk in the morning and drive to Volcanoes National Park in the afternoon

After morning breakfast, checkout of the lodge and drive to the visitors center for canopy walk which takes 2 hours. During the walk, you will see the aerial beauty of the forest and also be able to spot monkeys and several bird species. Afterwards, transfer to Volcanoes National Park through Kibuye to Ruengeri located in the Northern Province.

Day 4: Gorilla tracking. Visit Iby’iwachu village in the afternoon

Have an early morning breakfast and drive to the park headquarters where you arrive by 7:30 am for a briefing on the dos and donts of gorilla tracking. Enter into the forest with the guidance of the park rangers and start searching for the mountain gorillas. On meeting the gorillas, you are allowed to see them for a maximum of one hour. After the tracking, return to the lodge to relax or go do a cultural walk to the Iby’iwachu Cultural Village.

Day 5: Drive to Akagera National Park

After breakfast at the hotel, drive to Akagera National Park. Arrive early for a hot lunch at the lodge and then prepare for a game drive in the afternoon to see buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs, among others.

Day 6: Game in the morning and boat trip in the afternoon

Do an early morning game drive to encounter with the big five African wild animals such as the lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants and rhinos. Other animals include hippos, antelopes, bushbucks, giraffes, among others. Return to the lodge for lunch and prepare for afternoon boat trip on Lake Ihema. Expect to see the crocodiles, hippos, and a variety of water birds.

Day 7: Transfer to Kigali Airport for your outbound international flight

After breakfast, drive to Kigali city. You may do a city tour and visit some local markets, genocide memorials, and proceed to the airport for your flight back home.
